Pearl Street Diner

Tyler spends quite a lot of time at the Pearl Street Diner. It was the last place that he talked with his brother Michael and he goes there to write to him in his journal.

The Pearl Street Diner is a friendly, classic diner with a retro 50s / 60s feel to it. Located in New York City’s financial district, the diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to Wall Street types, visitors and locals.

Operating for 55 years, some of the favorites on the menu include the cheeseburger supreme with curly fries, chocolate chip pancakes, Western omelets, Cordon Bleu Grill Panini and, of course, fresh coffee.

Noguchi Red Cube Sculpture

The Noguchi Red Cube sculpture which stands behind Tyler as he says he's near Charles' office is a stone's throw away from where the twin towers stood. Noguchi said the cube, on its side, was like the roll of a dice: chance.

The cube is surrounded on three sides by skyscrapers which draws the eye upward. The cube also contributes to this effect by being placed on one of it's corners. It stands out from the surrounding, first, of course is that it is a bright red, second because it's lines run diagonally while the surrounding buildings are horizontal and vertical and finally because of while the skyscrapers appear very solid, the cube is balanced precipitously on one corner.

New York University

New York University (NYU) is where Tyler, Ally and Aidan attended college. While Ally and Aidan were registered as full students, Tyler was just auditing classes until he could decide where he wanted to go in life.

Founded in 1831, NYI is one of the largest private universities in the United Sates. Modeled after the University of London, the first trustees of the school wanted to set up a university that admitted young men based on merit and not on political or social standing. Turned down for funds by the city and state for funds, they raised the $100,000 needed to start the school privately. NYU held it's first classes in rented rooms in the Clinton Hall in 1832 and opened it's first professional school, The School of Law in 1835.

Today, NYU consists of 18 schools, colleges and institutions and the main campuses are located in six centers around Manhattan and Brooklyn with other centers sprinkled across the world. Over 43,000 students are currently enrolled at NYU in one capacity or another.

Tyler's place of employment, the Strand Bookstore has been in business for over 83 years.

In 1927, Ben Bass opened the first Strand Bookstore on 4th Avenue. In 1956, Ben’s son Fred took over management of the store and moved it to its current location at the corner of Broadway and 12th Avenue. Originally a retail space of 4,000 square feet, it has now expanded to 55,000 square feet.

A book lover’s paradise, the Strand is said to have 18 miles of books. In addition to an extremely varied selection of used books, the Strand carries thousands of new books, books ordered directly from the publisher, and one of New York’s largest collections of art books.

The Strand also carries the largest collection of rare books in New York City. This includes books that are first and signed editions. There are also hard to find books in a variety of subjects.

Alice in Wonderland Statue

The Alice in Wonderland sculpture, which is featured in some of the Remember Me scenes between Tyler and his sister Caroline, can be found in New York City’s Central Park.

The sculpture, which is 11 feet high, features characters from Lewis Carroll’s 1865 classic novel Alice in Wonderland. Children of all ages are able to climb on the mushroom and touch such characters as Alice, the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the Dormouse.

The statue was crafted by the well known Spanish born sculptor Jose de Creeft. De Creeft studied sculpting at the Academie Julian in Paris, France. He moved to New York City where he taught sculpture form many years at the Art Students League in New York. He also created sculptures using many different materials, most notably stone.

The bronze sculpture was cast at the Modern Art Foundry of Long Island City in Queens. The figure of Alice was inspired by the artist’s daughter Donna, while the other characters were based on the illustrations by Sir John Tenniel.

Inscriptions from the book can be seen around the stone base of the sculpture. They were placed there by the project’s architect Hideo Sasaki and designer Fernando Texidor.

Commissioned by philanthropist George Delacorte in honour of his late wife, Margarita, the statue was dedicated on May 7 1959 by Robert Moses, the New York City urban planner and builder.

It is located at the east side of the park at the northern end of the Conservatory Water, which is also known as the model boat pond.

Paris Theater

The Paris Theater is where Remember Me had it's world premiere.

The Paris Theater, which is located directly across from the Plaza Hotel and is close to Cental Park, was the first theater in Manhattan that was constructed post-WW2 and is the oldest continuously operating arthouse theater in the United States. It has also been known as the Fine Arts Theater.

The Paris opened to the public on September 13, 1948, with Marlena Dietrich cutting the ribbon, and is currently operated by City Cinemas. The interior style is Art Moderne and is very luxurious. The walls are blue velvet and there is plush seat seating on both the main floor and in the scalloped balcony. The staff is always well attired and helpful.

In addition to hosting premieres, the Paris Theater is known for showing arthouse and foreign films, especially French films.
